Review by hotel critic
During my recent stay at Plum House in Otaru, I was pleasantly surprised by the balance of comfort and value offered. As an archaeologist accustomed to the unique charm of various cultures, I appreciated the ryokan's genuine Japanese style. The location is convenient, being a 15-20 minute walk from the train station, with attractions and delightful eateries just around the corner. While the room was snug, a typical feature in Japan, it maintained impeccable cleanliness. The electric kettle and tea facilities were a nice touch, allowing for a warm drink after a day’s exploration. Although I didn’t try the public bath, it’s worth noting that having that option available adds a layer of luxury to the overall experience. Breakfast was simple yet satisfying, featuring fish, rice, and miso soup, supporting the idea that value does not have to compromise quality. With free Wi-Fi and luggage storage available, Baum House caters well to travelers like myself. In terms of pricing, while Plum House may not be the cheapest option, the amenities and service justify the cost, making it a smart investment for a memorable stay. I would certainly recommend it to those seeking a culturally rich experience in Otaru.
